# Getting Started

Monitoring automatically checks whether your services are up and running. When something fails, it starts an incident and alerts you and your users.

To create a monitor, go to **Monitors** → **Create**.

BetterStatus offers four monitor types:

* **API Endpoint** — checks if an endpoint is responding, e.g. `api.acme.com`
* **SSL Certificate** — tracks certificate expiry on your domains
* **Ping / ICMP** — pings your server to detect downtime or high latency
* **Website** — checks if a webpage is loading
